Application Received from Luīze Monta Remese for the Position of LSA President
One application has been received for the position of President of the Latvian Students’ Association (LSA). The application was submitted by a student of Rīga Stradiņš University and the current LSA Public Policy Coordinator, Luīze Monta Remese, for the presidential election at the 31st regular LSA Congress, which will take place on March 14 at 12:00 at the University of Latvia Academic Centre, Jelgavas Street 1.
The candidate emphasizes in her operational vision the need to closely follow national-level issues and purposefully represent students’ interests. She highlights the importance of bringing student interests onto the political agenda, identifying the improvement of the quality and accessibility of student dormitories as one of the key priorities. Strengthening a safe and modern study environment that meets contemporary requirements is also considered essential.
L.M. Remese further stresses the need to continue strengthening the position of the Latvian Students’ Union in the development of higher education policy. This includes actively monitoring the implementation of the institutional accreditation system for higher education institutions, as well as the establishment of a new institutional structure that will replace the Higher Education Council in the future. In these processes, the candidate plans to involve both current student representatives as well as LSA alumni and the Strategy Council.
In the context of international cooperation, the candidate emphasizes the continuous involvement of the Latvian Students’ Union in international student organizations, including the European Students’ Union and other partner organizations. Participation in international projects, strengthening communication with partner organizations, and exchanging experience with national student unions from other countries are also considered important.
In her vision, the L.M.Remesehighlights the need to promote broader and more systematic involvement of international students in student self-governments and student representation in higher education institutions in Latvia. To achieve this goal, improvements in the availability of information in English are planned.
Regarding organizational development, the candidate intends to pay particular attention to volunteer engagement, improve internal communication with member organizations, promote transparency in the organization’s activities, and further develop the public image and visibility of the Latvian Students’ Union. Additionally, the continuation and development of various projects within the organization is planned.
The candidate also emphasizes the importance of colleagues’ well-being, noting that well-structured internal processes, a clear division of responsibilities, and adequate capacity are essential prerequisites for the effective functioning of the organization.
The nomination of Luīze Monta Remese has been submitted by the following LSA member organizations: the Student Union of Rīga Stradiņš University, the Student Council of Daugavpils University, the Student Self-Government of the Art Academy of Latvia, and the Student Parliament of Riga Technical University.
